Final EXAM on Friday
Dear students,
It has been a long time without any communication. I hope you are all fine and with a lot of practice in English.
The exam has an oral and a written part and the exercises are similar to the activities we practiced in class and in our blog.
The written exam has 3 parts: reading, listening, and writing. Review the lessons we studied in class and the ones in the program. (See the program in Plataforma)
The oral part is an interactive conversation about different topics. For example, city life, the environment, public transport, university activities, national television, etc.
You can also practice listening to the websites suggested in Plataforma and also with films and music.
See you on Friday at 8:30.
Best,
Clara Nora

About the strike and the end of the semester
My dear students,
Last Friday I went to the Faculty to know about the details of the strike because I am worried about the end of the semester.
I understand your reasons, but we need to think about the end of the semester.
One action we can take is to write our blogs and advance on the topics we have to work on.
I have included a model blog for you to read and do the brainstorming alone because unfortunately we cannot meet and do this together.
I hope to see you on Friday, June 10th.
In case of questions, write to me at claranoramoreira@yahoo.com
Regards,
Clara Nora Moreira

Blog 8 A pice of news I think is important
Blog 8 A piece of news I think is important
The piece of news I will write about today is the indefinite strike of the students at the Faculty of Social Sciences.
I read about it in my mail because one student wrote to me in order to ask for more information. After this mail I received another official mail from the secretary of the faculty to inform me of this situation.
This happened on Thursday, June the 2nd on campus Juan Gòmez Millas, but this is not the first time. Chilean students have been demonstrating against the present system in all parts of Chile for decades.
I think this is a social and economic type of news because the students are trying to change the current system of education by forcing the political authorities to make education more accessible and massive for the Chilean students. Besides, they are trying to obtain larger budgets for free education.
I chose this type of news because it is relevant for all society and specifically for students at private and public universities, where the tuition fees are extremely high and many students who graduate from high school cannot continue their studies at these universities.
At a more personal level I think this decision affects students and professors, because we miss classes and
the opportunity to learn more. But at the same time I think we need to do something in order to let the authorities and society know how we think and finally change the present system.
The questions that derive from this idea are whether this way of demonstrating against this situation is the correct one, or whether there are other ways which can be more effective and less harmful.
And, most importantly, once it is accepted that the present system has to change. How should it be changed? Should education be free, or should students pay part of that education after they graduate?
The answer to these questions can be the topic for a future blog. One hint is to remember the proverb: “Easy comes, easy goes.”
